Are you weary of watching your mom’s cherished old banarasi saree languish in a corner, gathering dust and fading away? Instead of parting with it, consider the possibilities of transformation! With some creativity and DIY skills, you can breathe new life into that beautiful fabric, turning it into something both stunning and valuable. Explore these nine imaginative ways to repurpose your mom’s old saree and cherish its beauty for years to come!
- JUMPSUIT: My first idea is to create a jumpsuit, which is one of my favourite styles. You could incorporate some cutouts, like the details in the picture on the back. A sleeveless jumpsuit can be paired with a blazer or jacket. If you’re attending a wedding, you could also add a traditional work jacket. Additionally, you can include sleeves to wear it to a friend’s bridal shower or dholki, blending both traditional and modern elements.
- White Lovers :- If you love wearing white, take all your white shirts and transform your Banarasi saree into pants. You can wear this combination to lunches, dinners, or even formal events to showcase your traditional side. If you prefer not to cut your old saree, use it as a large shawl with your white Anarkali. This ensemble should be a staple in your wardrobe, saving money on new outfits. With your white shirt and old saree, you’ll be ready to blend modern and traditional styles.
- Blazers : Check out this outfit with a crop blazer and sharara pants. You can also turn it into a simple blazer and add some gharrara pants. You could even wear your Banarsi blazer with jeans or your office pants.
- Vests are always in style. Wearing a vest with pants is always a good choice when you want to look formal but not overly formal. If you’re not a fan of a white shirt, you can pair your vest with a matching shirt that complements your banarsi pants.
- Crop top , Peplum top or Anarkali :- Crop tops are always in fashion. If you want to wear one but don’t want to look too modern, try a banarasi crop top. Personally, I don’t like peplums because they don’t suit me, but if they suit you, you can turn a banarasi saree into a peplum. Additionally, if you want to give your mom’s traditional attire a new life, you can transform it into an anarkali.
- Simple long shirts paired with palazzo or straight pants. This is another one of my favourite ideas: pairing a long shirt with straight pants can transform it into a stylish outfit. To enhance the look, add some cute accessories like earrings or a necklace. This combination gives you a simple yet traditional appearance, perfect for attending a wedding. If you prefer bold statements, you can also pair it with palazzo pants.
- Banarsi lehnga with twist:- Banarsi lehengas are always in style, but if you want to add a modern twist to your outfit, consider pairing them with trendy pieces such as crop tops, cold-shoulder shirts, or off-shoulder blouses. You can also accessorise with elegant jewellery to enhance your look with a sophisticated touch while still keeping a traditional feel.
- Banarsi with modern twist: While this may not be my favourite idea, it can transform into modern gold, especially if you are attending an international event and want to showcase your traditional roots.
- Little Twist with long jackets:- I was thinking about transforming my old saree into a long jacket. You could also take it to a tailor and have it made into a trench coat. This way, you can wear it more often than you would wear the saree. If you take care of your clothing, you could enjoy wearing it every winter.
